Dear Family and Friends,Here we are almost at the end of the month of January, already! It has been about three weeks since we have arrived back home in Dhahran following our Christmas vacation back in Decorah, IA. Jetlag wasn't too bad this time, but getting back into the work routine was the hardest! Andrew came back with us and is spending his J-Term from Luther College here in the sun. He has been doing some research on Aramco's environmental visions and projects that it is involved in around the world. He has squeezed in plenty of time to be outside in the sunny, mild 75-80 F. temperatures and is hoping that he has soaked up enough rays to get him through the rest of the long, cold, and dark winter back at Luther. He has pulled his suitcase out from under his bed and has started to throw a few items in before his departure on this coming Friday. Let's see ... zaatar spice, some Galaxy chocolate bars, and a unique Saudi floor pillow for his room at Luther. He wishes he could squeeze our family dog, Jasmin, in, but that is just dreaming! Now, to finish that paper to hand in back at Luther, before he leaves!Mark is busy with the Dhahran Middle School Cross Country season these days. This is a busy week with the annual Dhahran Invitational scheduled for this coming Thursday. When he started this race about nine years ago there were just a handful of runners, and so far there are over 350+ runners registered for the race. Naturally, Andrew and I are on the volunteer list of helpers and will be there in full force to help out "the boss"!I'm getting back into my daily swimming and running schedule since vacation is over, too. Andrew has met me over at the pool at lunchtime on several occasions and then we have grabbed a quick hummus, taboulai, and Arab bread before heading back for the rest of the school day. It's a great way to break up a busy and noisy day with 3rd Graders! The annual Dhahran 10 Mile Run is this weekend, but don't know if I am ready for that distance, yet. Last weekend, was the "Doggie Dawdle" running event to help support our local PAWS organization. Almost every weekend or so we have a running event on camp, so it keeps our local running group, the DRRC, active and with events to train for, not to mention the fun we just have running together.Little by little, we are getting this website back up and running after a couple of very slow years! Keep checking back to find out what is happening in our lives! Hope all is well, wherever you are!Ciao,Lois and Mark |
